DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - Whether you're a kindergartner just starting out or a high school senior, back to school brings a sense of excitement and mystery.

News 4 sat down with two area students, one just beginning her school adventure, the other nearing its end.

One student said, "Hi my name is Jennifer, and I'm going into kindergarten.”

The other student introduced herself, saying, "I'm Justice, and I'm going to be a senior."

The first day of school keeps the emotions running high.

Justice’s mother Raechele said, “I'm sure I'm going to drive away from that parking lot, sad, knowing it is that last first day of school."

For those just beginning their school adventure, and those nearing its end.

"I'm super excited about kindergarten,” Jennifer said.

Justice said, “It's been hitting me at random times, like this is my last this, this is my last this. Because my life is never gonna be like this again."

A lifetime of memories made in the blink of an eye, some as simple as eating in the cafeteria for the first time.

Jennifer said, “I've been in there when I was visiting to get my milk with mom, but I haven't ate in one."

Justice said, "I'm really looking forward to all the special things seniors get to do."

It’s no different for parents, who are making these milestones with a mixture of excitement and melancholy.

“You don't understand when people tell you when a child is born that it goes so quickly.” Raechele said, "But it goes so quickly."

"Oh my gosh, we're gonna cry, I'm probably gonna cry now,” said Karen, Jennifer's mom.

"That's when you realize they're five, they're ready, they're not little anymore,” said Karen.

High hopes also accompany those back to school jitters.

Karen said, "I want her to absolutely love school and love learning."

Justice said, "Really I just want to cherish the time I have with my friends and my teachers."

For parents who have lived through pig tails and proms, a bit of advice.

"Trust your child, trust the stuff that you've done,” said Raechele.
