Thousands rally against SAFE Act

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Thousands of people arrived in Albany Thursday, for a rally against the New York SAFE Act. Sixteen bus loads of people left from western New York before 5 a.m. Thursday. During a recent trip to Buffalo, Governor Cuomo spoke about why passing the SAFE Act was the right thing to do.

“This was a very tough vote for politicians to make, why, because the gun lobby, their advocacy groups that protect gun owners, the advocacy group called the NRA, the National Rifle Association that is very, very powerful, and this was  very courageous and gutsy vote for your politicians to take. It was the right thing, but it was the hard thing.”

“We’re very good at saying when politicians don’t do what they’re supposed to do, or when government doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, well in this case, passing this law, they are heroes,” said Cuomo.

Many gun owners do not agree with Cuomo’s statement. Rich Davenport of the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen Club said the protesters are there for business. He says they are there for the business of fighting for their rights. He said they are rallying against the SAFE Act because the way it was written and the way it was put through, he says that is not how government works.
