BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - A SUNY Brockport student was found murdered in her dorm room and her relationship with the suspect is being highlighted though social media.

She is Alexandra Kogut, found dead in her dorm room after suffering extensive body trauma according to University Police. He is Clayton Whittemore, Kogut’s apparent boyfriend. He is charged with second-degree murder and is the prime suspect in the young woman’s death.

Authorities said the two were dating, and according to the Utica Observer the two had a loving relationship and sent each other messages on Twitter frequently.

Kogut recently tweeted, “So excited from @whittemore21 to come to Brockport Saturday and bring me half moons.” Whittemore responded, “Not if I eat them all first yummm.”

Published reports also say they called each other “dork,” and “freak.”

Last Thursday Kogut tweeted how she couldn’t wait for Whittemore’s latest visit. Kogut’s final tweet is now the words many can’t help but read into, “should’ve known.”

The 18-year-old freshman, a college student for less than one month, was found dead shortly after she posted that tweet.

Director of Health and Counseling Libby Caruso said, “I think the students are going to bring this to the forefront themselves. They will probably drive it. Much of our programming comes from student peer educators.”

Whittemore was arrested at a thruway rest stop near Syracuse at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. According to reports, authorities say the 21-year-old student at Utica College did admit to killing Alex Kogut. He has since however, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges.
