Funeral plans set for Mary Capozzi

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo mother who fought tirelessly for her son's release from prison passed away Sunday, with her family by her side.

Mary Capozzi stood by her son Anthony as he served nearly 22 years in prison for crimes he didn't commit.

Anthony was cleared of Delaware Park rapes after DNA evidence tied the crimes to Bike Path Killer Altemio Sanchez.

She died Sunday morning after a long illness.

Family members thanked western New Yorkers for their support and prayers.

Visiting hours for Capozzi are from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, at the Amigone Funeral Home on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.

A mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday morning at 10, at Holy Angels Church on Porter Avenue, also in Buffalo.
