BUFFALO, N.Y. (RELEASE) - Westminster Presbyterian Church will break ground on a new entrance for its Delaware Avenue church building Sunday, June 13. The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled to take place immediately after the worship service at noon, marks the start of the third and final phase of a recent successful capital campaign.

Designed by the local award-winning architectural firm Hamilton Houston Lownie, LLC, the entrance will serve as a focal point and connection between the campus buildings. This new entrance will welcome all for generations to come.

"In a world that is fractured and contentious our aim is to open our doors and hearts to the people of this community and beyond, to welcome them to Westminster." said Westminster's Senior Pastor, Dr. Thomas H. Yorty.

While the first two projects consisted of improvements to the building's infrastructure and state-of-the-art handicap access playground for the Westminster Early Childhood Program, the dynamic new entrance provides enhanced entry to the more than 150- year-old building.

Committed to preserving the historic structure built on land donated by philanthropist and co-founder Jesse Ketchum in 1851, Westminster members worked with designers and neighbors to select a plan sensitive to the needs of members and visitors while maintaining the church's architectural integrity. The Romanesque Revival design of the church building was done by the architect, H.M. Wilcox.
