BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The unemployment rate has reached record highs, and for many finding a job has been extremely tough.
LaToya Cunningham is like millions of Americans, unemployed and looking for a job.
She's been out of work for a year.
LaToya said, "I never thought it would be this long."
The 36-year-old has a bachelors degree in Fashion Technology, an MBA from Medaille College and a Public Relations Management Certificate from Buffalo State.
Every morning she starts her day on the computer, applying for jobs online.
She's worked with an employment counselor at the Buffalo Employment Training Center. And whenever there is a local job fair, she attends.
She's landed dozens of interviews and received several "thanks, but no thanks," responses.
"Either I don't have all the qualifications or I meet so many employees who are scared I'm gonna leave," said LaToya.
Throughout this grueling process of finding a job she has learned some valuable tips.
"The best way to ding a job is networking. You just tell everybody you know that you're looking for a job you kind of have to have that 15 to 30 second commercial," LaToya explained.
"I have a professional demeanor. I have been recognized for my professionalism. I have experience in marketing fund raising and event planning and project management," said LaToya.
Latoya's search continues.
Her positive outlook on the future hasn't changed.
LaToya said, "I'm maintaining the same attitude that I had, six months from now I will be gainfully employed, somewhere."
