ASHVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Chautauqua County meat processing plant has filed notice with the State Labor Department that it will be closing in October, laying off 100 workers.
AFA Foods in Ashville has been linked to the recent pink slime reports that made many institutions and businesses cancel orders.
In 2009 a deadly outbreak of E. Coli was traced to the firm. AFA Foods recalled 500,000 pounds of ground beef after it was linked to an outbreak that killed two people and sickened an estimated 500.
The state filing reports that the Ashville plant will close by October 16, 2012.
