Auto dealer admits stealing sales tax

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo man and a former owner of Chrome Motors, on Genesee Street, is pleading guilty to serious charges.

Leonard Johnson, 42, admits to stealing $39,581 in sales tax, according to the Department of Taxation and Finance and Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita. An investigation revealed Johnson was selling vehicles, collecting the sales tax from customers and then failing to give the money to the state.

Johnson could face a prison sentence up to seven years. He will be sentenced on February 27th, 2013.
