BATAVIA, NY (WIVB) - The Catholic Diocese will be closing a Batavia church at the end of the year, after consolidating two parishes in 2008.
St. Anthony’s Church will celebrate its final mass on Sunday, Dec. 30.
The parishes of St. Anthony’s and Sacred Heart merged in 2008 to form Ascension Parish to save money .
WBTA Radio reports that Bishop Richard Malone will come to Batavia to celebrate a closing mass on Jan. 13.
The parish struggled to keep two locations. The long speculated move to close will ease financial obligations to maintain the properties.
