BUFFALO, NY -
It's a game that's been banned from some college campuses. A beer pong tournament in Buffalo is not only raising glasses, but also safety concerns.
Beer pong tournaments are now in the national spotlight, being played across the country.
The tournaments are used to raise money for charity but they also raise concerns about binge drinking and drinking and driving.
Beer Pong Tournaments begin with two teams of two people each. They sit on opposite ends of a long table.
Co-owner of World Beer Pong Tour Peter Altholz said, "And what you do is you set up cups on the table. Each team takes turns tossing ping pong balls into the opposing teams cups."
Whichever team tosses a ball into every cup first is the winner. The tournaments usually last between four to seven hours.
Concerns over binge drinking have prompted some cities and college campuses to ban them. Several players said they don't participate to drink.
Beer pong player Eric Brown said, "You can win a trip or you can win a thousand bucks like I won last time."
"It's fun and you can meet different people," said Megan Higgins.
Quote nightclub manager Matthew Dole said he's taken steps to ensure that everyone is safe.
"We also monitor them by having professional staff and blood alcohol content meter at the door," said Dole.
Organizers said that because of the way the game is structured, it doesn't really allow for people to become intoxicated. Don't have to drink.
