OLEAN, NY (WIVB) - More than 170 people who work for DalTile in Olean are out of a job.
At a late Thursday afternoon meeting, company officials announced they will cease operations in January of 2013, putting 174 people out of work. DalTile, which also has a plant in Gettysburg, Pa., will expand operations at its sister plant.
Ann McLaughlin of the Olean City Council said, "We came up with a very generous, attractive offer to DalTile. Unfortunately it wasn't enough we wished it was. It was a battle well fought. Unfortunately, we just didn't win the battle."
The company manufactures mosaic tile and made this move after what officials call a comprehensive assessment of its operations.
