BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Before Sunday mass at St. Casimir's Church, many Buffalo Catholics' thoughts were overseas in Rome where cardinals will soon be picking the next pope.
News 4’s Nalina Shapiro caught up with several parishioners who had mixed emotions and different opinions regarding what they are looking for in the next pope.
Charlotte of Buffalo wants change to bring in more young people and help the church grow.
Kathy told us she feels the same way and that all people should be accepted by the pope. “I'm looking for someone who's looking towards a modern Catholic Church and not the Old Catholic Church.”
Buffalo Catholic David disagrees with the women and does not want change. He says, “I hope that he continues to be a traditional fellow and that he continues to get some of the scandal problems taken care of and cleans the slate.”
Parishioner Rose said she would like to see an American become the next pope. “For the first time Americans are on the list of Papal contenders. That would really be great but I’m not holding my breath on it,” she said.
The conclave begins Tuesday, March 12th. In the past, it hasn't lasted more than five days but with no clear front runner, the election process may take longer.
