BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo resident was in the movie Lincoln. News 4 learned UB Professor and actor Stephen Henderson was in the movie, playing one of Lincoln’s messengers William Slade.
Slade was born a free man and was a real historical figure. Henderson says President Lincoln trusted Slade to take messages to certain people for him.
While the movie was being filmed in Richmond, Virginia, Henderson says Lincoln, played by Daniel Day Lewis, would stay in character. So when Lincoln and Slade met on or off the set, they were friends.
Henderson talked about the film to News 4, saying “Slade was known for being a storyteller. And Lincoln loved a story, as everybody knows. And Lincoln was a good storyteller. So they were really friends as well, and Daniel Day knew that. Because he does stay in character. So when I first met him, that's the first thing he said was ‘Oh. Mr. Slade. It's so good to see you again.’”
Henderson is also known for his role in the Broadway Play, Fences. He has also acted in the HBO series The Newsroom and the TV series Law and Order.
