BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A Canadian police officer has pleaded guilty to smuggling steroids from the United States into Canada.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Buffalo says 41-year-old Geoffrey Purdie of Fort Erie, Ontario faces up to 10 years in prison following his plea in federal court Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Purdie was a constable with the Niagara Regional Police in November and December 2011 when he picked up packages of steroids in the U.S. and then brought them home to Canada, presenting his official law enforcement identification to border agents.

Purdie is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
