Ceremonies mark solemn anniversary

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Nearly 3,000 people died on September 11th, many with close ties to western New York. Tuesday, local ceremonies marked the solemn anniversary.

Students, firefighters and community members gathered in downtown Buffalo, Tuesday morning, to remember those who lost their lives on September 11th, and to honor the men and women who served 11 years ago.

People also stood united in Amherst, at the Amherst Memorial Hill Grove. During the service, the names of local people who died at the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Next, the poem We Remember Them was read to honor the men, women and children who died.

Leonard Castrianno lost his son at the World Trade Center said that even though the attacks happened 11 years ago, he still feels the pain of the tragic day.

Castrianno said, “Last year was hard, this is harder and not because we’re not having a big ceremony like we did last year, but the fact that I miss my son more and more.”

Castrianno said, “I miss him because my grandsons are now 17 and when I think of playing golf with them or anything that I do with them, I miss him.”
