BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The NHL season is still on hold, but there is no stopping a hockey tradition in Buffalo. Thursday morning, details were announced for the Sixth Annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament. This year, the event will be a one-day tournament on February 9th at the Erie Basin Marina.
Teams can begin registering online Friday. For the first time, teams will be selected by lottery draw.
Labatt Blue Associate Brand Manager Lisa Texido said, “We’ll select the teams based on a lottery system. Final teams will be announced on December 7th. We’re really excited about this change in registrations. It’s something players have been recommending and we think it will allow us to open up an opportunity to players and teams who haven’t had an opportunity to play in year’s past.”
You may recall, last year’s tournament hit the pavement instead of the ice, because of warm temperatures.
