HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - There are major changes are underway at the site of a fiery crash that killed a driver last month.
News 4 received a phone call Friday morning that crews were in Hamburg removing some of the boulders that were in the roundabout. Family members of the crash victim showed up, asking why the boulders are being removed at this particular time.
Kenneth D. Braun, 54, of South Park Avenue died a horrific death in October. Police say Braun crashed his pick-up truck into the South Park, Big Tree traffic circle's huge boulders, went airborne and flipped over. The vehicle burst into flames and officials say the man died on the scene.
As crews were removing some of the boulders, Braun’s family came to the scene of the tragic crash.
“The fact that they’re removing the rocks today, you know, obviously they weren’t safe,” Braun’s sister said. “They are boulders in the middle, that’s what his truck hit. That’s why his truck started on fire. I’m happy the rocks are removed, they were ridiculous, we know the people in the town didn’t want it. Obviously they weren’t safe, I mean they removed them.”
News 4 has calls into the State Department of Transportation to find out what is happening.
