Chicken wing fest set to break records

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - (RELEASE) Holy Cow or should we say Holy Chicken, the Wingfest Chicken Wing order is in, and it is the largest known on record for an event in the United States.

An order of 45 tons or 90,000 pounds was placed by Festival Founder and “Wing King” Drew Cerza Monday.

The wings will be coming from Sanderson Farms in Laurel Mississippi through their distributor US Foods.

It will take three tractor-trailers to transport the wings.

Lined up back to back the semis would be equal to half the length of a football field.

In addition to the wings, 23,000 pounds of Bunge trans-fat free frying oil was also ordered.

Last year approximately 5,000 of the 91,000 attendees were surveyed at the festival.

It showed that wing lovers traveled from 49 states (Arkansas was a no-show) and over thirty different countries.

“We need to be prepared this year more than ever. This weekend alone the Toronto Star, Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle ran feature stories in their paper and on-line”, said Drew Cerza, Festival Founder.

This year’s Wingfest promises to be even bigger with the special appearance of the world’s #1 competitive eater, Joey Chestnut as he will be participating in eating contests each day. Chestnut will be battling festival attendees and a group of sports media on Saturday at 3pm in the Pepto-Bismol Challenge.

The festival highlight will be a head-to-head battle against current United States Chicken Wing Eating Champion, Sonya Thomas on Sunday September 5th at 3:30.

Admission is only $5, with kids 8 and under admitted free.
