BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sources say a father has been charged in the death of his 10-year-old son. Late Tuesday night, police discovered the body of the boy in the basement of a home located at 30 Guilford Street on Buffalo's east side.
Police arrested 40-year-old Ali-Mohamad Mohamud and charged him with second-degree murder. He is charged in the death of 10-year-old Abdifatah Mohamud.
Residents of the neighborhood say the family was from Somalia and moved into a Habitat for Humanity house a few years ago.
Neighbors say the father works as a security officer. They painted a picture of playful children in the family, with a father who has a temper.
Neighbor Audrey Robinson Powell said, "When the gentleman I spoke with told me, I felt weak in the knees. I felt like I was going to faint. I couldn’t imagine hurting a child or anyone, and it’s sad. It’s just sad.”
“I’ve seen him yell at the kids for things kids do, like playing in this field,” said one neighbor.
Another neighbor said, “He dragged that kid in the house, and the kid was hollering.”
