Christmas tree shopping time

HOLLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - Just as soon as the tryptophan from the Thanksgiving turkey wears off, it's time to think Christmas, and that means Christmas trees.

All across Western New York, local tree farms are now up and running for the season like the Country Tree Farm in Holland.

At the farm, you can pick out a pre-cut tree, or if you're feeling adventurous you can walk, or sled through the property with a saw and cut down your own tree.

Jim Dick from Bennington says, "We love it. Perfect day, the last couple of years we've come out there wasn't any snow you're going through the mud. It's still fun, it's a family tradition for us."

All year these farms look forward to the next month or so. And each of them try to make the experience convenient and fun.

Ann Zywiczynski from Country Pine Farm says, "We prepare for it all year. We're always looking at what our customers like and how we can improve for the following year."

Like all local farms, Christmas trees also suffered because of the drought. Some had drying damage inside, but farmers say we wouldn't see that affect for another couple years. They also say a wet winter or spring could fix the problem, and not to worry about your tree this year.

"If they've never been out before we like to say it is the most well kept secret and that's what people tell us. And we love having people come out, they say to them it's like a Norman Rockwell picture and they just love the tradition," said Zywiczynski.
