Empire State Development grant helped job spurt

AMHERST, NY (WIVB) - You can bank on 175 new jobs coming to Citigroup in Amherst.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced that he met personally with Citigroup Inc. Chief Executive Officer Michael Corbat and secured his commitment to add 175 jobs to the company’s Amherst site at CrossPoint.

Schumer also highlighted that Citi is looking for qualified applicants to fill these positions, in capacities varying from operations and technology to finance and risk and urged local residents to apply.

The bank’s payroll in WNY is expanding growing to 1,475 employees – a growth of 825 workers from 2007. Schumer noted that much of this expansion in Western New York’s CrossPoint Business Park facility was spurred by a $1,750,000 grant from the Empire State Development Corporation.

Citi has been in New York State for over a century and has employed workers in Western New York since 1976, when it started its Buffalo-area presence with 10 employees.
