BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Friends and loved ones are remembering an innocent bystander, killed during a violent chain of events in Buffalo.

Monday afternoon, News 4 has learned Brown Chiari has been hired to represent the estate of Ida Murphy. News 4 was told the City of Buffalo will be named in the lawsuit.

Murphy was killed last Thursday on Fillmore Avenue, a light pole fell on her, one that was struck by 48-year-old Issac Parker’s vehicle. Parker was trying to run from police.

Police believe Parker had been drinking, prior to the traffic stop they initiated Thursday night. An officer shot and killed Parker when he tried to speed away.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel  Derenda said, “We believe that a struggle ensued after he tried to start the vehicle, and at some point, one of the officers was dragged, and the shot was fired at close proximity.”

Ida Murphy’s friend Demetrius Moore said, “The bottom line is we deserve to know the truth, as a community, because it appears that a lot of the events have been swept under the rug.”

While Buffalo Police are still sifting through evidence in this officer-involved shooting,  News 4 learned most of these cases end up going to a grand jury.
