BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Free smoke detectors and batteries will be distributed around Buffalo during October for National Fire Prevention Month. The city is hosting open houses at fire houses around Buffalo, designed to educate children and families about fire safety.
Residents will meet fire officials, learn about the firehouses and learn fire safety and prevention tips.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said, "This month, I encourage residents to visit an open house where they will receive important information on preventing home fires as well as receive free smoke detectors and batteries. We all know that the best way to prevent injury and property loss due to a fire is to be prepared.”
