BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Mayor Byron Brown announced Buffalo’s fifth “no questions asked” Gun Buyback Program, to take place Saturday August 18th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at seven drop-off sites across Buffalo.
City of Buffalo’s Gun BuyBack will take place at the following locations:
Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway
Prince of Peace Christian Church, 190 Albany Street
Primera United Methodist Church, 62 Virginia Street
St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 450 Abbott Road
St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell Street
Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church, 440 Leroy Avenue
Assembly of Christian Churches, 213 Ontario Street
Since 2005, the city has removed 8,430 illegal guns from city streets, with 3,000 of those weapons being seized through the gun buyback program.
A pre-paid credit card will be given for each gun turned in by members of the public. At the Gun Buyback locations, non working or antique guns are worth $10, including bb guns and pellet guns. The program will buy rifles and shot guns for $50, hand guns for $75 and assault weapons for $100.
The program is one of the strategies to cut down on violence in the city. This year, more than 70 new police officers are coming on the force, another 40 surveillance cameras will be installed, the city’s police Strike Force Unit is working with sheriff’s deputies, New York State Police and violence prevention organizations.
