BUFFALO, N.Y (WIVB) - The Colored Musicians Club Museum in Buffalo had its official ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday at 12:30pm.
Following the ribbon cutting is the museums Grand preview on 145 Broadway from noon until 4:00pm.
The Colored Musicians Club of Buffalo invited many Club Members, Sponsors, Supporters, and Friends to the Grand preview to honor the legacy of Jazz music in Buffalo and abroad. The event is to also salute the nation's oldest African American Musicians Club, Buffalo Local 533.
Former Common Council President George K. Arthur says, "Every Tuesday night and Sunday afternoon, you could come here and it was loaded, it was crowded, you had a difficult time waiting to get in. Once you got in, it was worth it. And I don't care what kind of problem, what kind of difficulty, what kind of troubles you had, you forgot them."
Others now have the chance to reminisce and imagine what it must have been like for some of jazz histories most talented musicians to perform live in Buffalo.
Mayor Byron Brown believes the museum will bring visitors from across the country. "As you walk through it, it literally gives you goose bumps seeing the unique history that Buffalo has in the world of jazz music," says Brown.
Judge Wilbur Tremell played saxophone at the club with some of the world's greatest jazz legends and was there for the ribbon cutting.
Visitors will get to learn about the clubs history through videos and displays and if they want to escape to the sweet sounds of jazz, there are plenty of recordings from the clubs prime.
