CLYMER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Grief is uniting the quiet southern tier community of Clymer following the murder of its popular school superintendent. This, as investigators try and piece together this brutal crime.
Chautauqua County's Sheriff Joseph Gerace says after being in law enforcement for more than 30 years, he's never seen like this hit the town of Clymer. He says he's doing everything to find who murdered Clymer's Superintendent.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace said, “We're looking at everything that could be related. We have several different agencies working with us including the FBI and the State Police. because we'll use any assistance we can.”
The search for evidence continued Tuesday outside the house of murdered Clymer School Superintendent Keith Reed. Tuesday, results from his autopsy confirmed that he was murdered. No further information is being released by the sheriff’s office.
Reed hadn’t been in Clymer long, but residents say he seemed to fit right in.
Clymer Hardware Owner Bill Rowan said, “ He fit in well, everybody liked him. You’re in a tough position in a small town as a superintendent anyway, but he fit in, and the kids even liked him.”
Rowan said, “It's a sad day for the world, You know, why? Pointless, certainly.”
A prayer vigil for Reed is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in the Town of Clymer.
Sherburne-Earlville Central School District in Sherburne, N.Y. is having a walk for the Clymer School Superintendent Keith Reed Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. The walk begins in the auditorium entrance.
Calling hours for Reed are at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home in Salamanca, on Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday in the United Congregational Methodist Church at 2 p.m.
