LAKEVIEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - A two-day mystery over the whereabouts of Dr. Timothy Jorden was solved Friday, when police announced that they had found the doctor’s body.
Speaking at a press conference, Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said Jorden had shot himself in the head. The gun was still in Jorden's hand when they found him.
News 4 was the only news crew in Lakeview Friday morning when Dr. Jorden’s body was discovered around 10:40 a.m.
“Had the doctor been alive and captured he would have been charged with murder today,” Derenda said.
Officials say after a 17 minute phone conversation, Dr. Jorden lured his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Jackie Wisniewski into the lower stairwell in the David K. Miller Building.
“At that point, he shot her at close range 5 times," told Derenda. "We believe he then ran back upstairs to his office. We know that he emptied the shell casings from his gun into the office,”
A doctor found Wisniewski and heard someone running up the stairs, which is why the building went into lockdown.
With surveillance video from the hospital and the doctor’s home, detectives were able to piece together what happened.
“We saw him go into his home; he came back out to his vehicle, back into his home and four minutes later he went out the back door towards the heavily wooded area down into the ravine never to be seen again,” Derenda said.
Police believed Jorden committed suicide, but they continued to check airline records and watch the border.
“We were up on some other cell phones we believed belonged to him," added Derenda. "We were watching his credit cards, if they were going to be used.”
With a GPS tracking device, investigators were able to tell exactly where they had and hadn’t looked. Eventually, this led to the discovery of Jorden’s body.
“We believe he did plan it," Derenda said. "We understand that he did recently withdraw large sums of money; he was giving out gifts to some people, so he did have it planned--for how long, I can't say."
