COUDERSPORT, PA (WIVB) - It's been one month since a man walked into the United Presbyterian Church in Coudersport, Pennsylvania and fatally shot a woman playing the organ.
The church has reopened its doors after the December 2nd incident, holding its first Sunday service.
Police say, Greg Eldred walked into the church and killed his ex-wife, Darlene Sitler.
It was a day of worship interrupted by unthinkable violence.
Pastor of Presbyterian Church USA, Reverend Evon Lloyd says, "I'm pleased that we are here and starting a new path in a familiar territory. Our church family is very strong and we are doing well."
The congregation was joined by nearly 200 worshippers of different denominations.
Eldred is now charged with murder.
The newspaper, Potter Leader-Enterprise, reported a possible motive for the killing. The paper interviewed several close friends of Darlene Sitler who says she divorced Eldred because he was obsessed with online adult pornography.
Shortly before the shooting, the FBI raided Eldred's home. Sitler told her friends she never talked to the FBI, but worried Eldred thought she did and would kill her for that.
Members at First United don't want to rehash details of what happened in their church back on the December day. They feel are starting to feel at peace again now that their church doors have reopened.
