WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - The pivotal vote that could terminate the village of Williamsville government, is a little more than one week away.

Sunday, residents in the village met on the issue.

Kevin Gaughan, an activist pushing to dissolve governments around the state, tells News 4 he was not invited to Sunday''s meeting.

But the organizer tells News 4 he was not uninvited either.

One week from Tuesday, the village residents will have a significant decision to make and that is whether to dissolve the village government.

They meet at the meetinghouse and museum for information.

Frank and Sarah Mischler have lived in the village of Williamsville since 1946. They came to Sunday's presentation, along with dozens of other residents to hear the pros and cons of dissolving the village government.

Williamsville resident Sarah Mischler said, " I do not want it dissolved, I've lived here since 1946 and raised my family here and have many ties."

"I'm concerned that people do not have enough information to really vote on this, because we're being asked on whether or not to dissolve our government and there is no plan in place ," added Amy Alexander.

Alexander says village and town officials are not making any comments on the proposal since it is not a done deal just yet and may not even pass.

A guest speaker told residents to use an array of resource tools for additional information. But he also warns that all villages are unique and can't always be compared to one another.

"I have a few words for that Albany lobbyist, we are dying here in Western New York. We live in a community where young people purchase billboards to plea for someone to give them a job. And against that backdrop for taxpayer's to have to pay the plane fare for that man to come in and tell us to hold onto a system that has not been changed since the Civil War is an insult," said Gaughan.

Gaughan is the activist pushing to dissolve governments around the state. He says in Williamsville, dissolving would save taxpayers 4.7 million dollars per year.

Frank and Sarah Mischler says the money does not matter.

"I'll pay the extra money. I don't want this dissolved. I think there is too many complications," said Mischler.

The village residents will vote on this issue one week from Tuesday and Kevin Gaughan said whatever they decide will be the right choice because it is their vote.
