BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - National Passport Day in the USA was a victim of the sequester budget cuts, but Erie County is stepping up. The county clerk hosted Passport Day in Erie County.
Passport acceptance agents were at the Northtowns Auto Bureau to process passports for western New Yorkers. With spring break right around the corner, the timing of Saturday’s event was just right.
Deputy Clerk Michael Cecchini said, “It’s not always convenient for people to get downtown to the county offices and he wanted to offer another location outside of downtown to make it convenient for people to get their passports.”
Cecchini says they processed close to 100 passports at Saturday’s event. Because demand is so high, they’re going to make the Passport Day a regular event. Starting April 9th, the Northtowns Auto Bureau will open every second Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9 to process passports.
