LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Cranes are idle at the Bethlehem Steel building Friday. This could mean the owner of the building could be held in contempt of court. That’s what a city official told News 4 on Thursday.
Thursday a judge once again refused to stop demolition after preservationists tried intervening again. The back and forth had been going on for months.
Campaign for Greater Buffalo’s Tim Tielman said, “It's a huge disappointment for everyone. The City of Lackawanna does not come out looking good on this. The building owner does not look good on this, and western New York is gonna be robbed of a very impressive architectural and historic landmark."
Preservationists are planning to appeal again, but it won’t be heard for months. The building is expected to come down in the next couple of weeks.
