Cranksgiving comes to Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's a growing event that came to Buffalo for the first time today; a race for a good cause.

Race organizer, Adam Ianni tells News 4, "There's a list of grocery stores and a list of items they need. They'll start from here, race to the different grocery stores, get the items, and as quickly as possible get back to our workshop."

About 25 bicyclists took part in the race otherwise known as Cranksgiving where racers buy food that will help feed families in need on Thanksgiving. 

The race started at Lafayette Square and each of the participants purchased $10 to $15 worth of food that will go to the organization, Food not Bombs,

Bicyclist Rich Scaduto says, "It's just nice to do something for a good cause once in a while. Usually we're out racing just as a fitness-related hobby. But this is a good opportunity to get out and help the community."

33 other cities host Cranksgiving.

GoBike Buffalo, a bicycle advocacy group organized the event.
