BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - For a few hours early Monday morning, an accident shut down a section of Route 198. The crash ended up turning into a manhunt.

According to Buffalo Police, the driver of a 2005 Jeep was heading west along Delaware Park. The Jeep apparently struck two light poles, flipped, and then hit a tree near the Parkside Avenue exit.

Police say the driver of the car then took off on foot. Police and first responders surrounded the car, but shortly after, crime scene tape was put up, and police started driving around the Delaware Park Golf Course looking for the driver.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the wreck after running over the downed light posts on Route 198. A police report states there were no injuries. However, an officer on the scene said a passenger of the Jeep was injured during the wreck and was taken to Sisters of Charity hospital.

News 4 was on the scene shortly after 6 a.m. when the Jeep was removed from the scene, and about 20 minutes later, the west bound lanes were opened up again for the morning commute.

Police so far have not released a description of the driver who fled the scene. They would only say that they're continuing to look for the driver.
