GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - A portion of Grand Island Boulevard is back open, following a mess Thursday morning. A car plowed straight through the front of the Grand Island Community Federal Credit Union around 9 a.m. Thursday.

Grand Island Fire Company Chief Kevin Coch said patron Ellen DeNorman, 46, and employee LoAnne Lucinski, 29, were pinned by debris inside the building for a period of time Thursday. DeNorman was hit in the back by the vehicle while Lucinski was behind the counter at the time. The car went forward through the credit union about 12 feet. Both were taken to the hospital, though there injuries are not considered serious.

Coch said, "There were two elderly females in the car. At this point she's not really sure what happened."

The driver, 76-year-old Joan Allen, couldn't remember what happened. She and her passenger, 76-year-old Joan Droit, were taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital as a precaution, but neither were injured.

Crews on scene say the building didn’t suffer any structural damage because the car plowed perfectly through front door.

Last year, there was a rash of cars crashing into buildings around western New York.
