HAMBURG, NY (WIVB) - A car crashed into a utility pole along Route 5 overnight sending thousands of National Grid customers into the dark around midnight.

Hamburg Police tell News 4 the car crashed into the pole but the driver was not hurt.

1500 homes were without power in the area of Big Tree Road and Route 5 for about five hours but the power is back on.

The crash closed down the roadway but is back open to traffic.
