NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. (WIVB) - Niagara Falls Parks Police rescued people from the gorge on both Saturday and Sunday night. Officials say they are glad the people knew to call for help.
Three males are facing charges, after Niagara Falls Parks Police say they climbed over a retaining wall in a no-trespassing area. Three young adult males became stranded in gorge at 10 p.m. Sunday. Officials say one male was able to extricate himself and call 911. The Niagara Falls Fire Department had to raise the second person from the gorge using an aerial ladder. The third was assisted out by members of the Parks Police High Angle River team. Traffic was temporarily rerouted on River Road during the incident which concluded at approximately 11:30 p.m.
On Saturday night, two hikers from Toronto had to call 911, after getting stranded in the dark without flashlights. Parks Police High Angle River Team located the hikers and escorted them out of the park around 9:45 p.m.
“In both cases we were glad they called,” said Niagara Parks Police Constable John Gayder, “They knew it was too dangerous to press on so they contacted 9-1-1. We told them to stay where they were so they could avoid injury and not exhaust themselves.”
