Body found in canal is missing Airman

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A badly decomposed body was pulled out of the Black Rock Canal, Tuesday afternoon.

Family of Senior Airman Richard Jones told News 4 Tuesday night the body belongs to the missing 23-year-old man.

Jones was last seen on October 22 and had been missing for weeks. His mother recently made a plea for someone to come forward with information. His family says they knew something was wrong when the dedicated Airman didn't show up for duty at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station's 914th Airlift Wing.

There is no word on how long his body was in the water or his cause of death.
