CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Local gun advocates are pouring into gun shops and ranges, before potential changes take effect from the proposed gun control bill. About 20 customers were in line at the Buffalo Gun Center Tuesday morning, in Cheektowaga.
Customers were lining up at the store on Harlem Road, willing to wait over half an hour to enter the store, on the same day the New York State Assembly is voting on the gun control bill. The bill will make New York's already tough gun control law even tougher. The New York State Senate approved the bill Tuesday night.
Niagara Gun Range Owner Dennis Deasy says he doesn't agree with anything in the bill except not giving guns to the mentally ill. "There is nothing I can't do with seven-round magazines that I can do with a ten round."
One of the main points of the law is , if you have a military style weapon, you could keep it, but not sell it in New York State. Pistol permit holders would have to re certify at least every five years and 10 shot clips could no longer be sold in the state, seven shot clips would be the maximum.
