BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Canada and DHS have signed a memorandum of understanding that sets in stone what Senator Schumer announced back in October, that Peace Bridge will be one of the two bridges to get a pre-clearance truck inspection program on the Canadian side of the border in Ft. Erie. Canada has committed to pass a law to let our ICE and DHS officials carry guns on the Canadian side.
The Peace Bridge program will take effect 6 months after Blaine, which should begin as early as next month.
"As a multi-year effort, I am thrilled to announce that DHS and the Canadian Government have signed this critical document, which sets in stone the plans for the Peace Bridge to be one of the two sites for the preclearance pilot program,” said Schumer. “I have fought long and hard to get this pilot program up and running in Buffalo, which will spur more trade and tourism to Western New York and significantly improve traffic delays for visitors and anyone returning home after a trip to Canada."
