LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - Neighbors on Davidson Road are coping with Saturday mornings discovery of a woman who was found lying in the snow outside the former Niagara County Infirmary building before she died.
Many are describing the suspicious case "very disturbing" and something they'd never expect to happen in such a quiet neighborhood.
Daniel Stockton walks his dog by the Lockport facility every day. He said, "It's a small town, small area. You never have any problems with crime or anything around here."
Lockport Police say a passerby saw the woman and called 911 around 6:30 in the morning.
They say she was found unconscious with her body temperature being so low she was barely alive.
The unidentified woman was rushed to Eastern Niagara Hospital by Lockport fire and rescue crews. She was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
She was last seen Friday night, visiting a friend near the old infirmary and was found a short distance away from her home.
Police say there's no sign of any foul play; they're calling it an "unattended death."
What caused the woman's death remains unclear which raises many red flags for those living nearby the facility.
The woman's name won't be released until her family is notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning at ECMC.
