CLYMER, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Chautauqua County Sheriff has issued an all points bulletin for a Virginia man wanted in the murder of Clymer School Superintendent Keith Reed.
The sheriff left no uncertainty Thursday: this is the man he believes to be responsible for the death of 51-year-old Reed.
"I hate that term, 'person of interest.' He is a suspect. He is a suspect. He is who we believe is responsible for the murder of Mr. Reed," said Sheriff Joseph Gerace.
Forty-two-year-old Anthony Robert Taglianetti, from Virginia, is considered armed and dangerous.According to police, Taglianetti was in Clymer on the night Reed was killed.
Police say Reed was shot multiple times Friday night, shortly after he was last seen alive at 8:30 p.m. Authorities did not find his body until Monday, when, with the help of a K9 unit, Reed was found 100-yards from his home.
Sheriff Gerace said, "We have information that puts Taglianetti in Chautauqua County on Friday."
When News 4 scoured the internet for more information on Taglianetti, we found he has a page a Marine Corps University's website. It says he works there as an oral historian.
Investigators believe Taglianetti is no longer in New York. He might be heading back to his home state of Virginia.
"Mr. Taglianetti is at large right now," Sheriff Gerace said. "We are doing everything in our power to find him and get him apprehended, get him where we can question him."
It appears Reed and Taglianetti knew each other, though police won't say how.
Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley said, "We can say that they're not unfamiliar with one another. This situation has nothing to do with Mr. Reed's capacity as the superintendent. It was a personal issue, and not a professional one."
But Chautauqua County authorities won't talk about a motive. All they'll say is that Keith Reed's murder was intentional, not the act of an indiscriminate killer.
"This isn't a random act of violence. This individual wanted to do harm to Mr. Reed," Sheriff Gerace said.
If you have seen Taglianetti in WNY or know anything about Keith Reed's murder, please call the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office at 753-4231. If you're in the VA area and see Taglianetti, call the Prince William County Sheriff's Office at 571-238-0731.
