BRANT, N.Y. (WIVB) - A suspected drunk driver accused of killing seven-month-old baby Baylee Dion, and injuring the baby’s mother Denise Hine, is due in court Friday. Just Thursday, 24-year-old Danielle Kellogg posted $20,000 cash bail, releasing her from the Erie County Holding Center.
News 4 spoke to the victims’ family Thursday night, about Kellogg posting bail. This is the latest development in a case that has gripped western New York, causing a lot of outrage.
Attorney for Dion & Hine Family Steve Boyd said, “We weren't offended by the amount of the bail, we were a little bit surprised that she was able to raise it, but the fact of the matter is the bail is meant to get her to appear at the next appearance, and we're confident that she'll do that.”
Viewers on our News 4 Facebook page are saddened and angered that Brant Town Justice Peter Gugino set the bail for Kellogg at $20,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
Nicole writes, “I can’t believe someone would even give her a chance to be bailed out!!! She needs to stay in there!”
Former Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark agrees with Steve Boyd, in pointing out the reason for bail. Clark said, “People get mad at that, thinking it should be higher. But you have to understand, it's only to ensure her appearance.”
Danielle Kellogg is scheduled to appear in Brant Town Court for a felony hearing Friday afternoon. Steve Boyd says there is a chance that the hearing will be waived and the case will be moved to another court.
