MEDINA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Firefighters responding to a fire in Medina Sunday afternoon discovered more than just flames.

The Village of Medina Fire Department says crews discovered a small marijuana growing operation when they were called to extinguish a dryer fire in the basement of a West Avenue home.

22-year-old Patrick Taylor, of Medina, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Growing of Cannabis. He was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

The fire was quickly doused, however due to numerous building code violations, the house was condemned.

The Red Cross is assisting four adults and two children displaced by the fire. There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $2,000.
