DUNKIRK, NY (WIVB) - An agreement has been struck between NRG Energy Inc. and National Grid that is very positive news for its employees.
NRG Energy owns the Dunkirk power plant that has been teetering financially.
The Dunkirk Observer reports that NRG will begin operating one of the two units in the facility from June 1 through May 31, 2015.
The deal is positive because it keeps the majority of jobs intact. They expect employment rolls to drop from 82 to 68. Some positions will be absorbed by transfers and existing vacancies.
The Public Service Commission needs to give its stamp of approval to the deal.
