HOLLEY, NY (WIVB) - The Environmental Protection Agency has detailed a $14.5 million plan to clean up contaminated soil near the former Diaz Chemical plant.
The Batavia Daily News reports that the federal government held a community meeting on Wednesday attended by about 50 residents to explain the cleanup plan.
The EPA plans to heat up the chemicals and to capture the vapors to solve issues with groundwater contamination.
Diaz Chemical ran a food processing plant from the mid-70’s to 2003 and then filed bankruptcy.
The EPA has already paid $8 million to demolish the production facilities used by Diaz, and ship chemicals off site.
