LEROY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Fear over " LeRoy Syndrome " has prompted cancelation of several basketball games at the school in Genesee county.
More than a dozen girls in LeRoy suffering with Tourette's like tics and spasms have officially been diagnosed with "conversion disorder."
While the state says that disorder was not caused by environmental factors or infections, no one can say for certain what is causing the uncontrollable symptoms.
Families speaking out about how their everyday lives have been turned upside down, like Anderson Friday on Channel 4.
Lor, a conversion disorder patient said, "I haven't been able to go to school because I pass out and usually after I pass out I have a seizure and it's gotten to where I pass out everyday when I went somewhere so I haven't been able to go to school at all lately."
Lori's mother, Tosha said, "Frustrating. We're tired. No matter what happens now we're on edge."
Not only is it frustrating to families affected, but now those from surrounding communities are deciding to play it safe.
This weekend at least five basketball games scheduled in LeRoy have been canceled. Parents of those players, not willing to risk their children's health and safety for sport.
The games involve a Rec League team and four catholic youth organization basketball teams.
The coaches are quick to point out this was not an organization decision, but that the majority of parents had voted to not let their children play.
Meanwhile families affected and experts continue to search for answers.
Erin Brockovich said, "We do have more testing to do, it is concerning and we don't think every stone has been unturned."
An environmental investigator for Erin Brockovich has released preliminary tests of three private wells in LeRoy.
Bob Bowcock says the plume of TCE contamination from the 1970 Leigh train wreck has not moved toward LeRoy schools.
