ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - A former Niagara University student who died a hero in Afghanistan has come home for the final time on Friday.

More than a-hundred Patriot Guard Riders escorted the body of 23-year-old Private First Class Theodore Glende to a funeral home in suburban Rochester. Glende had been in Afghanistan less than a month when his unit came under attack last week. He died when the he threw himself into harm's way to save his fellow soldiers.

PFC Glende's cousin, Stewart Alexander, said, "He sacrificed his own to save his comrades and that is who he was, he was putting everyone else first above him."

A funeral service for PFC Glende will take place on Saturday. He leaves behind his wife, whom he married just three months ago.
