Firm reviews dangerous intersection

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - There is a dangerous intersection with a high number of accidents in Buffalo. What should be done about the intersection at Parkside and Florence Avenues?

Neighbors have seen countless drunk drivers end up on the front lawn of homes, and people are saying “enough is enough.” After putting pressure on the city, it looks like there may finally be a plan put into action to change the problem.

Parkside Avenue resident Richard Wolf said, “The huge concern is the number of people going through red lights, it’s just not here, it’s every where.”

Wolf spoke to News 4 six years ago, after a car crashed into his front yard. Crashes like that are commonplace for residents.

From May 2006 to August 2011, the intersection saw 23 collisions. That is three times the statewide average for similar intersections.

After pressure from the Parkside Community Association, the city contracted an independent consultant firm to conduct a safety assessment of the intersection.

The firm’s draft report makes a handful of suggestions, like improving signs and reducing the sharpness of the curve on Parkside Avenue.

The only thing left before those suggestions become final, is getting the input from those who live in the area.

The Parkside Community Association will hold a public meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Saint Mary’s School for the Deaf, to discuss the findings from the safety assessment. You can read a copy of the draft report at ParksideBuffalo.org.
