BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A national historic landmark on Forest Avenue that has been vacant for nearly 40 years has big plans set for 2015.
About one-third of the 19th century Richardson Olmsted Complex of the former Buffalo State Insane Asylum will be transformed into a 90-room boutique hotel, and event and conference space by the end of 2015.
The first redevelopment phase was announced Friday morning by Lt. Robert Duffy, the Richardson Corporation, Senator Mark Grisanti, and many others. They say the $64 million state-funded project, which includes $19 million in historic preservation tax credits, will create over 500 construction jobs, and up to 90 full-time jobs.
Business leaders say this redevelopment project will attract global tourism into the city, generate new money, as well as keep a piece of history alive.
