FORT ERIE, Ont, (WIVB) - A printing plant in Fort Erie has suddenly announced it is closing, putting 100 workers out of a job.

The news is grim for the town which has been severely shaken economically in the past year.

Vertis Communications told workers on Wednesday that the plant will be closing immediately.

The Niagara Falls Review reports that the parent company of  Vertis had filed for bankruptcy protection last year.

Although some of the firm's assets have been sold to Quad/Graphics,  they are are not interested in the Fort Erie location.
